Mangalore, Oct 16: Mamata, wife of one Girish from Kannur-Padil on the outskirts of the city, has reportedly abandoned her newborn female infant in a government hosptial in the heart of the city and disappeared. The incident came to light on Saturday. Informed sources said the new mother was extremely disappointed over the birth of a female child.
The woman is said to have developed labour pangs on October 14, followed by a normal delivery. Because of the normal delivery, the staff did not pay extraordinary attention. On Saturday afternoon, the infant was found wailing without anyone to care for her.
Not expecting a woman having delivered only a day earlier to be able to leave the hospital on her own, the staff would not believe that she had actually disappeared from the ward. Finally, in the night, the hospital authorities are said to have filed a complaint about her disappearance.
While on the one hand, the hosptital staff could not expect how her husband would react to the situation, it is also sure that without some outsider's help, she could not have moved outside the hospital.

A few decades ago, female child was not the first preference for the following reasons :
1) Female was considered as a liability to be given to the person she marries.(Its a system and does not amount to any violation of basic rights of the woman)
2) During marriage, the bride's parents has to take the burden of marriage expenses when their financial condition was very poor. (Its a mutual understanding to take the burden of marriage expenses onto the bribe's parents)
3) Female can't continue the father's name and generation.(After marriage, the female continues the generation of the husband's family and does not violate the basic rights of women, it does not undermine the importance of a female)
NOW female child is not the first preference for the following reasons :
1) Most female get pregnant and have to go abortion before the age of 18. (female puberty starts much early then men so they can't be considered as immature)
2) Most female don't take financial responsibility in the house after they start earning. (If they have to take the burden, they would say that the system is violating their basic rights)
3) Most female wear skimpy clothes to attract men and her family can't stop because she is financial independent and she would start argueing about her basic rights. (Parents have to look down in shame when their daughter wear skimpy and revealing clothes in front of them).
4) Most female don't want to assist their mothers in household work because she thinks that its taking away their freedom which is violating their basic rights. (Parents are deprived of affection from their daughters)
5) Most female are aggressive with their parents when it comes to marriage and divorce. (Parents can't stop their daughter even if she is marrying a wrong person).
To Sum up : Women in those good old days were respected, revered and considered as Laxmi, the embodiment of prosperity. Now women are treading a path where people can't respect them for they are aggressive and so-called basic rights issues are raised on petty trivial matters.

Talking about the girl child
This here shows how its still terrible back in India, I always felt that it was something of the past, living abroad, that people no longer considered a female child a burden. but behold, in one of the states with the highest literacy percentages in the country, Kerala, foeticide is still taking place..
what a shame... what a real shame this is still here haunting us in the 21st century.
For complete details, i have posted the link from where i read the article.
