LEFT Needs To Be Left, Else Country Will Be Left:Posted on Friday, July 22, 2005 at - Post CommentThe country may be experiencing new challenges every day but the LEFT in India is adamant on getting space in the print and electronic media daily without even getting bothered by the events which demand a constructive role by all concerned players. Short of popular support from the mainstream of the Indian society, these days the LEFT leaders have left the popular Lallu far behind on the idiot box coverage. With a gang of 60 they are holding country’s development to ransom. Lacking any constructive policy of nation building, here is a glimpse of their negative philosophy “expressed by saying NO to any positive proposal”-observed after they became a partner in the ruling alliance at the center. 1. No to Democracy: A vibrant democracy functions only if there is a sensitive and efficient government and a dynamic opposition. In the present scenario LEFT has grabbed the role of an ally in the governance as well as opposition. People are confused as LEFT is playing both roles perfectly. I said “perfectly” for governance too because the LEFT leaders are so smart that before the Government declaring any policy decision, which has the consent of the LEFT, it is they who run to the media and declare the same and give an impression to the country that it is they who have got it done, leaving the government in frustration. For instance though it is commonly known that in India the Government of the day, by and large, takes into confidence the major political parties before a major foreign policy initiative is taken. And so the PM consulted the LEFT also as he consulted with the NDA before his departure to US. But before PM could reach US the confidential discussions were revealed by the comrade Bardhan to the press giving again an impression that LEFT is super government. Nobody could understand what was the intention behind that press statement. If any understanding could be developed than it was that LEFT is high jacking the governance of the country without any accountability. 2. No to Propriety or Ethics: LEFT is giving the impression of power hungry jokers who don’t want to dissatisfy their constituency but at the same time want to enjoy the fruits of power. In the process they have forgotten the rules of the game. When PM consulted them before leaving for US, what was the need of playing the record in public before any public statement was released by both the governments? In fact the propriety of governance has been left to oblivion in the process. 3. No truck with US : LEFT wants that India should have its foreign policy which must be based on the premise that there should not be a good relations with US. Agreed that US in no example either for democracy or for human values or for respecting the sovereignty of the nations but the fact can’t be denied that in today’s world US is the most powerful nation. And there is no harm in having issue based good relations with US provided it benefits both. After all both China and Russia are looking towards West for help. Then why not India. The only subtle point is that in the whole process the independence of our foreign policy must be kept intact to the extent that core values/premises are not compromised. However bad US’s record may be but it is a known fact that US is incomparable to the extent that it doesn’t resort to rigging, violence or in asking the voters not to cast their votes which is taken care of by the cadre as it happens in West Bengal. Left must set it own records right before expecting others to follow its wishes. 4. No to Nuclear deal with US: LEFT is opposed to India joining the group of nuclear “Haves”. Why? Can’t be explained. After all when India is a nuclear weapon state(as is the necessity by being the neighbour of rogue Pakistan and shrewd China) then the same needs to be recognized. It is foolish to be not part of Haves and to be denied all the advanced technologies related to nuclear and space science. And if you want to become the one then their is always a cost which has to be born by give and take. 5. No to Economic Reforms: LEFT has again said NO to economic reforms. Their should be NO disinvestments in BHEL. Their should be NO disinvestments in any profit making PSU. There should be NO labour reform. There should be NO reform in Banking and Insurance sector. There should be NO decrease in the rate of interest in EPF even if the bank rates have come down and the present rate of interest is unsustainable. There should be no hike of petroleum products even if the same has gone up in the international market from 38$ a barrel in Nov 2004 to 58$ a barrel now. There should be no FDI in retail sector even if strengthens your supply chain or as Montek Singh Ahluwalia said at least from experimental point of view lets introduce FDI in retail sector. So there should be no experimentation as per LEFT. Further there should be no end to the free power which is being given in some states. There should be no FDI in aviation sector even if it means that the present metro airports are short of infrastructure. There should be no help from world bank or IMF or ADB or JBIC. And last but not the least the LEFT says NO to Mr. Chidambaram. 6. No To Non-Violence: Left never opposes non violence. It hasn’t condemned the violence perpetrated by the naxalites in different part of the country. The trigger happy LEFT is never saddened by the death of the security personnel or innocent civilians. The violent revolution is justified in the name of the utopia already attained in West Bengal and now to be attained in the country. In a way LEFT is also supportive of internal disturbances prevailing within a large part of the country. 7. NO Cordination Committee: Finally LEFT has said NO to the UPA coordination committee. The government will be run without coordination which in turn means greater uncertainty for the country or in other words means greater blackmailing of the upright PM and his government. The day another “NO alternative formation”(third front) is in sight LEFT will say NO to the present government. LEFT must realize its responsibility towards the governance of the country at this critical phase where not only the imporatant economic issues but social and religious issues with international ramifications along with terrorism is raising head. LEFT are a set of learned people and should not be reduced to bunch of Jokers who don’t have a vision of governance but only exploitation and blackmailing. After all the model which their ideology has produced in West Bengal is nowhere termed as an example to be followed. Under the guise of communism poverty and threat has been distributed and not wealth. Who has stopped them is creating a model which can by all standard be called progressive. If any such model emerges then I think the whole country will follow it. But first show it in the states which are ruled by LEFT. Please don’t become a compilation of all negativism. Throw a progressive policy accepted universally by all. If not then don’t highjack the progress of the country. If would have been better if LEFT would have allowed Mr. Manmohan Singh to work for the country and would have compelled him to ensure that fruits of development and progress go to the rural areas and to the farmers and the poor i.e. ensuring that the farmers of Telengana also becomes a shareholder in the progress of Banglore. If LEFT fails to do so then Mr.PM say NO to the LEFT even if it means saying NO to government. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. Send only if your conscience allows you to do so- Thanks). |
