Ayodhya and London (My views 4)Posted on Monday, July 11, 2005 at - Post CommentTwo serious incidents with global ramifications have occurred within a week.(a) Terrorist attack on one of the most revered places of Hindus and (b)terrorist attack on public places in London. In the former only one or two were killed whereas in the latter more than 50 killed. However seriousness of the Ayodhya incident cant be rated lower simply because less number of persons died. On the other hand, it could be termed more serious as it is the abode of the deity of more than 80% of the 1 billion Indian population. The world showed maximum concern for what happened in England whereas the reaction on Ayodhya was limited. The impact of London will have long term consequence whereas the impact of Ayodhya may be temporal in the eyes of many. The intellectuals world over are criticizing London attack out of conviction whereas the Indian intellectuals and elite are managing Ayodhya as nothing has happened. Not to talk of world media esp. the British and the US media which obviously will give utmost importance to London incident till Britain captures one or two Islamic countries in the name of hitting at the network of terrorists like the US did for the sins of twin towers demolition in NewYork. Strange that the Indian media esp. the electronic have posted their journalists to London for a running commentary running into several days giving every details of British expressions. Compared to this zeal, Ayodhya seems to be pariah. In England the Muslims are condemning the act in so many words and so many times so that the same resonates not only in England but also in every nook and corner of the world, whereas in India there were very few reactions and that too lead by suspicion of various kinds so much so that a leading journalist makes it a point to repeat that the lead of Pande(the freelancer pujari and guide killed in Ayodhya blast near the jeep) may not be left un probed as the same may lead to a Hindu conspiracy behind the attack. To sum up most of the expressions in India are a clear manifestations of the guilt feeling and inferiority complex about self(whether individual or collective) and assigning superiority to others. The intellectual are shy of criticizing Ayodhya as they feel that the demolition of Babri Mosque was a bigger terrorist act than the present one. If one of the leading columnist in Hindustan Times wrote so, another communist turned communal turned neo secular wrote in an article in the Indian express that the Hindus must say sorry for what happened in 1992 in Ayodhya. And there are n numbers of intellectuals taking this line. The irony is that those who follow another line, not even supporting RSS line, are termed as communal. The caucus is so strong that its words are believed not only at the national level but internationally. However these sets of intellectuals, though in majority, have lost there objectivity and have become prisoners of their own limited conviction. Their truth narration is dangerously incomplete with ulterior motives. There can be a line of thinking which may not agree with the RSS and BJP still may say the truth objectively and completely. For this school the act of 1992 was not an act of terrorism but an expression of the frustration of the majority of Indian society to correct a historical blunder. Such acts may not be legal, which of course it was not. But rather then calling it a terrorist act it may at best be called communal expression and one that hurt the sentiments of the minority who too are born and brought in the same soil. But the logic doesnt end here. The story shall be incomplete unless the way Babar demolished the temple and built a mosque there is also taken in the totality of events.( It is an undeniable fact that the muslim invaders loved to demolish Hindu structures of worship). So the events can be logically reduced to the following premises. (b) Babar demolished the temple, (c) Babar built a mosque which of course was not the birth place of prophet Mohammad and no namaz is offered for last several decades, however it became a sentimental point for muslims due to demand from Hindus to take it back, (d) The Hindus demolished the mosque forcefully by taking law in their own hand and without caring the sentiments of muslims, (e) Now the Hindus want a temple to be built at the same place, Now lets find out the apparent cause of the London incident, (a) Twin towers in US was attacked on 9/11 in which thousands of innocents were killed, (b) Al Qaida was held responsible, (c) Taking advantage of it, under the cover of a lie that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction both US and Britain attacked the sovereign Iraq and destroyed the society, its fabric and the structure of governance( to remove Saddam was responsibility of Iraqi public and not Bush who had a personal point to score or the liar Blair. (d) Attack on Iraq gave the opportunity to the terrorists to resort to inhuman ways of taking revenge. (e) London attack occurred in which the innocent civilians were killed, Both narrations can be further reduced to the premises as follows: (A)Muslim invader hurt the sentiments of the majority community(Hindus) which in turn hurt the sentiments of muslim minority, (B)The traditionally colonial invader(England) played with the sovereignty of an independent nation (Iraq)under the cover of an argument which turned out to be a lie which in turn has given a ground to Islamic terrorists to attack innocents. Now the issue arises as to whether there can be an end to these inhuman acts? History cant be rolled back nor can the full proof solutions be framed. Still some concrete efforts can be done to stop humanity fighting humanity. In this context I broadly prescribe the following solutions in respect to the two incidents. Ayodhya: (a) Let the Muslims regret what Babar did to the temple, let Hindus regret about 1992, let Muslims allow Hindus to built the temple of Lord Ram at the same place and let Muslims be allowed to build a grand mosque in Ayodhya at some distance and finally let Hindus declare that they would maintain status quo and no claims shall be made w.r.t. Mathura and Kashi. And this may be done through a larger consensus among both communities in the shortest possible time so that further politicization on the issue is not done. (b) Attacks on West: Let sovereignty of Iraq be restored and US and Britain immediately withdraw the forces. Saddam too be allowed to participate in the democratic elections in Iraq to be overseen by either UN or combined Arab forces( or forces drawn from all Islamic countries) who would ensure that the integrity of Iraq remains intact. The final solution for Iraq must come from Iraqis and not be superimposed from outside. Both Bush and Blair may say sorry for lying on the issue of WMD in Iraq and disturbing the sovereignty of Iraq, Bush and Blair may resign voluntarily giving way to fresh faces, Muslims world over condemn what happened on 9/11 and in London and cooperate with the rest of the world in destroying the structure of terror world over including POK and Kashmir. A new dawn of hope is required for the peaceful existence of humanity. (If you like the article then you may e-mail it to two more persons. Send only if your conscience allows you to do so- Thanks)
